Sotheby’s to Auction Rare Giacometti Bust with $70 Million Estimate

Sotheby’s is set to auction a rare bronze bust by Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti, estimated to fetch around $70 million.The sculpture, titled "Grande Tête Mince," is a slender, elongated head created in 1954. This piece is notable for its unique patina and has been part of a private collection for decades. 

 

Giacometti's works have historically commanded high prices at auction. In 2015, his "L'Homme au doigt" sold for $141.3 million, setting a record for a sculpture at auction. Another piece, "L'Homme qui marche I," fetched $104.3 million in 2010. 

 

The upcoming sale of "Grande Tête Mince" is anticipated to attract significant attention from collectors worldwide, reflecting the enduring appeal of Giacometti's distinctive style and the rarity of his sculptures in the market.
