Fernando Botero, the Colombian artist who became internationally aclaimed thanks to his voluptuous images and sculptures of all kinds of different subjects, has died on September 15th in Monaco at 91 years old after suffering from complications due to pneumonia. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.
We had the honor and the priviledge of knowing and working with him and his art. We will continue to honor his legacy through our passion for showing his incredible work for generations to come.
His signature style, which depicts different figures and people with exaggerated volume, became so popular throughout the years that it became commonly known as "Boterismo." His usage of the style could be interpreted as humor or political criticism, depending on the artwork. He has been widely considered the most recognized and quoted latin american artist in his lifetime, and his art can be found in highly visible places around the world, such as Park Avenue in New York City and the Champs-Élysées in Paris, at different times. He has left behind a legacy of revolution in art that will continue long after his passing.
