Jordi Ribes Spanish, 1972
Jordi Ribes (b. 1972, Barcelona, Spain) is an acclaimed contemporary artist based in Barcelona, renowned for his distinctive approach to blending digital and traditional pictorial expression. His innovative use of oil paint departs from its conventional form, yielding a polished and indistinct texture that evokes a digital aesthetic. Coupled with vibrant, electric hues, his work creates a striking narrative of a fantastical, surreal universe. This imagined world teems with figures rich in cultural references, presenting a compelling interplay of contrasts—naïve versus perverse, familiar versus alien, and real versus fictitious.
Ribes's works have been featured in solo exhibitions at Galería Senda (Barcelona) and L21 (Palma de Mallorca), as well as in notable group exhibitions at prestigious venues such as Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (Móstoles, Madrid), Arts Santa Mónica (Barcelona), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Galería Lelong (Paris), Galería Oliva Arauna (Madrid), and Tecla Sala (L’Hospitalet, Barcelona). He was honored with the Premio Altadis award, and his work is included in esteemed collections worldwide, including Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, Patronato Martínez Guerricabeitia, Fundación Altadis, Fundación Vila Casas, Fundación Guasch Coranty, Fundación Medianoche, Recharge Foundation (Singapore), Victoria Collection (Miami and Johannesburg), Ding YiXiao-Xiao Foundation (China), and the Tbilisi Art Centre – John Dodelande Art Collection.
