The eagle holds great significance for Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans as the bird of Jupiter, the King of Gods. It is also viewed as the symbol of strength, courage, and immortality. Eagles, considered divine birds, were believed to possess ocular properties and served as messengers of Zeus and heralds of victory.
For Native Americans, the eagle and its feathers symbolize qualities such as the highest, bravest, strongest, and holiest. An eagle feather represents love, friendship, honor, bravery, and mystical powers.
Echegaray conducted research for the piece in Patagonia and completed it in Alaska in 2023. A study published in the Cell journal in 2019 analyzed 49 ancient Indigenous American samples from North and South America. It concluded that all Indigenous American populations descended from a single ancestral source population, which diverged from Siberians and East Asians, giving rise to the Ancestral Indigenous Americans, later branching into various Indigenous groups.
The artist attended the opening of the National Museum of the American Indian in 2004. All American Great Indian chiefs, from Chile to Canada, are connected not only through their DNA but also through an informal network preserving their culture and ancestral technology of mystical powers.
In the Americas, eagles are considered medicine birds with impressive magical powers, playing a significant role in religious ceremonies. The eagle is sacred because it flies closest to the Creator.
